Artist statement

My work starts from emotion, memory, and transformation. To me, glass is a material in which fragility and strength come together, and where light and time become visible.

I came to glass late in life. As a child, I was seen as clumsy rather than creative, so I didn't discover this path for a long time. In 2012, I became chronically ill. Being ill is an entire grieving process, a farewell to the life you once pictured. A year later, on holiday in Portugal, I happened to meet a glass artist. That meeting was my first introduction to glass. Slowly, the light began to shine again.  In 2014 I enrolled at the glass academy, and it hasn't let go of me since.

I work intuitively with lampworking, shaping glass with the flame, combined with pâte de verre and mixed media such as epoxy. In my more recent work, I combine lampworked glass components with cast resin backgrounds into wall panels where structure and transparency create a unique interplay.

My studio is a small room at home that I've converted into my own workspace. For larger pieces, I retreat to the garage, or find another suitable spot. My working day isn't fixed; I work whenever inspiration and time align. It started small, and the work keeps growing with it.
